Description
Robert Smithson's earthwork Spiral Jetty (1970) is located at Rozel Point peninsula on the northeastern shore of Great Salt Lake.
2012: The first time I went to the Jetty. I had no idea at the time that it was one of the few years the Jetty was what you would expect a jetty to look like. For about a dozen years following its construction it was submerged, making it only visible by air, and then for the following years, it was on dry land. I also did not know until I visited the place four years later that the water at this time was only four to six inches deep. The magic of the Landart is not just the rocks formed into a spiral on the edge of a lake close to the edge of nowhere, which is in itself mystical and tranquil, but that it makes it a destination to draw you to the ever-changing beauty of the place itself.
